Clinical Preventive Services & Immunizations
|
Preventive health care can help you live a healthier, longer life. As a TRICARE Standard beneficiary, you are eligible for a range of clinical preventive services, including examinations, immunizations and periodic screenings based on your age, health history and family history.
Covered services include well-baby visits and immunizations for beneficiaries younger than age 6, and immunizations and comprehensive clinical preventive benefits for beneficiaries age 6 and older. Services include, but are not limited to:
- Cancer screenings and services for breast cancer, cancer of the female reproductive organs, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer
- Infectious disease screening for hepatitis B and testing for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), as well as preventive therapy for patients at risk of developing active disease (e.g., those who received a tetanus shot after an injury or a rabies vaccine after an animal bite)
- Genetic testing and counseling for certain clinical indications during pregnancy
Age-appropriate doses of vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are covered under TRICARE Standard’s clinical preventive services. For a list of recommended immunizations, visit the CDC Vaccines and Immunizations web site. Immunizations for active duty family members who accompany their sponsor overseas on permanent change of station orders are also covered.
Some services are covered only if they are provided in connection with a visit for immunizations, Pap smears, mammograms or exams for colon and prostate cancer. These services include, but are not limited to, screenings for:
-
Testicular, skin and thyroid cancers
-
Infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and rubella
-
Cardiovascular disease
