How to ensure TRICARE Prime Eligibility
This time of year, holiday parties and other occasions always include food. Unfortunately, this can contribute to unhealthy eating and weight gain.
All TRICARE beneficiaries except active duty service members (ADSMs) may self-refer to a civilian network behavioral health care provider for the first eight outpatient behavioral health visits per fiscal year (Oct. 1–Sept.30) without prior authorization. |
When a primary care manager gives you a referral for specialty care, an inpatient admission or other care requiring written prior authorization, you must first seek that care at the MTF. This is known as the MTF “right of first refusal.”
Each fiscal year, costs for TRICARE-covered inpatient services are subject to change. This article highlight the new rates for inpatient services for fiscal year 2009 (Oct. 1, 2008–Sept. 30, 2009).
Active duty family members (ADFMs) enrolled in any TRICARE Prime option can now call TRICARE Global Remote Overseas (TGRO) Alarm Centers to obtain emergency care when traveling overseas.

TRICARE’s Respite Care Benefit Expanded
TRICARE now offers respite care to eligible beneficiaries who incur a serious injury or illness while serving on active duty. The benefit is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008, and provides rest for primary caregivers who have been caring for injured or ill uniformed services members at home. For information and eligibility requirements, visit the Respite Care Benefit for Seriously Ill or Wounded Active Duty Members web page.
