If you or a family member is dealing with stress, depression, grief or anxiety, help is available to you in times of need. All TRICARE beneficiaries except active duty service members (ADSMs) may self-refer to a civilian network behavioral health care provider for the first eight outpatient behavioral health visits per fiscal year (Oct. 1–Sept. 30) without prior authorization.
If treatment is required beyond eight visits, your behavioral health care provider or primary care manager (PCM) must obtain prior authorization from ValueOptions.
ADSMs may receive behavioral health care without a referral, but only at a military treatment facility (MTF). Before receiving any behavioral health care services outside of an MTF, ADSMs must obtain a referral
and prior authorization from their PCM or military behavioral health clinic.
All beneficiaries are encouraged to seek behavioral health care services from an MTF or their PCM. When those services are not available, beneficiaries may seek care from a TRICARE behavioral health care provider.
Note: To ensure coordination of your care, it is important to inform your PCM of any care received outside his or her office.
Certain provider types always require a referral for behavioral health care services. To learn more about this requirement and your behavioral health care benefit, visit Humana Military's
Behavioral Health section,” or call ValueOptions at 1-800-700-8646.
