All About Cervical Cancer

At one time, cervical cancer was the leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found the number of cases and deaths from cervical cancer has decreased significantly in the past 40 years. This decline suggests that regular Pap tests and early detection are working.

Cervical cancer screening is important because women in the early stages of cervical cancer usually do not show signs of the disease. As the cancer spreads, women may experience some of the following warning signs:
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
  • Pain during sex
