What is a Vaccine?
A vaccine is a substance containing a killed or weakened part of a virus that causes infection. When you receive a vaccine, your body reacts to it by making protective substances called "antibodies". Antibodies protect your body and help fight against infection. Vaccines expose you to viruses so you can be protected from a disease without actually getting sick from it.
Where Can I Get a Vaccine?
If you live near a post or base, check with the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) to see if they offer immunizations and vaccines. If immunizations and vaccines are not available at the nearest MTF or you do not live near the post or base, please contact your primary care doctor for preventive immunizations and vaccines.
