Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP)

The Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP) provides 180 days of transitional health care benefits to certain uniformed services members and their families.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for TAMP is based on the reason for separation and an Honorable or Under Honorable Conditions characterization of service, both identified in the Certificate of Release from Active Duty (DD form 214).  Not all separations from active duty qualify for TAMP.  If qualified, the 180-day TAMP period begins the day after the date of separation from active duty.

National Guard and Reserve members who have served more than 30 days of continuous active duty in support of a named contingency operation qualify for 180 days of TAMP.  National Guard and Reserve members demobilized after serving 30 days or less of active duty do not qualify for TAMP.

What plan options are available?

Under TAMP, sponsors and family members are automatically covered under TRICARE Standard and TRICARE Extra.  TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Overseas Prime (TOP) are also available.  TRICARE Prime Remote, TPRADFM and TOP Prime Remote are not available during TAMP.

What does it cost?

For those who qualify, there are no enrollment fees for TAMP.   Premiums are based on the plan option selected.

How do I enroll?

During TAMP, sponsors and family members are eligible to enroll in TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Prime Overseas or use TRICARE Standard and Extra or TRICARE Standard Overseas. All rules for that beneficiary category apply, including any applicable deductibles, cost-shares and copayments.

Existing TRICARE Prime coverage with no break in service may be continued by completing a new TRICARE Prime Enrollment and PCM Change Form and submitting it to Humana Military before the TAMP period ends.

If eligible for TAMP, a Department of Defense-issued identification (ID) card that shows the 180 days of medical care will be issued.  Two valid forms of ID will be required to attest to identity.  Visit the DEERS web site to locate the nearest ID card-issuing facility, hours of operation, and verify the documentation requirements.
