Plan Ahead for Potential Natural Disaster Survival and Recovery

The Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastal areas are subject to hurricanes and tropical storms and the Midwest is subject to major thunderstorms and tornados—this means that the TRICARE South Region is vulnerable to catastrophic damage due to heavy winds, tornadoes and storm surges. While we can’t stop a natural disaster from occurring, we can be more prepared in the case of an emergency.  Along with water and flashlights, you should also be prepared for your health care.

According to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, the East Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 through November 30, with peak activity occurring during July through September. In a normal season, the East Pacific expects 15 or 16 tropical storms; nine of these could become hurricanes, of which four or five could be major hurricanes.

Since TRICARE is so important to you and your family, we recommend you keep your contact information handy as well as your disaster supply kit and family emergency plan.  Humana Military’s toll free customer service number is 1-800-444-5445.  Humana Military will also provide facility update information as it becomes available.
