A Simple Step To Best-Value Service

Patient Appointing Services (PAS) is an innovative, centrally-managed contract administered by the Army Medical Command’s Center for Health Care Contracting (CHCC) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Available for use by all Department of Defense medical facilities in the contiguous United States, Alaska and Hawaii, PAS offers individual military treatment facilities (MTFs) an opportunity to:

  • Streamline the time to acquire contracted patient appointing services
  • Avoid the hassle of individual contract procurement and administration
  • Reduce the risk of non-performance by an unknown vendor
  • Know the history of past performance of all offerers for your appointing needs
  • Customize local needs within an existing contractual structure
  • Ensure competition – and best value pricing
  • Focus on the delivery of quality health care
The PAS Advantage
PAS was created and designed to support MTFs. Utilizing PAS is as easy as contacting the Army Medical Command Innovative Medical Acquisition Program Division. In fact, task order specifications can now be reduced from their previous multi-binder complexity to a form as clear cut as a list of costs, past performance and a set of technical capabilities.

The PAS contract awards let the MTF select from among pre-qualified, experienced appointing service contractors. Each contractor is required to adhere to a task order structure with defined performance requirements and standardized administration. After the task order award, CHCC maintains the audit and reporting requirements.

In short, the existing PAS contract provides every MTF – regardless of service affiliation or geography – a valuable tool for acquiring and managing contracted patient appointing services from qualified vendors.
Humana Military – A Sound Choice

Humana Military Healthcare Services distinguished itself by becoming a PAS contractor in July of  2005 – one of only three approved PAS vendors. There are several major advantages to MTFs who select Humana Military as their appointing contractor, including:

  • Extensive military patient appointing experience
  • A long-term understanding of the military medical culture
  • A documented, verifiable record of performance
  • A commitment to collaboration with our military customers
Since 1996, Humana Military has provided support to military hospitals and clinics under the TRICARE program. Under earlier TRICARE contracts, Humana Military accepted more than 3.5 million appointing-related calls per year and scheduled more than 1.7 million centralized and decentralized appointings annually. Today, we have the privilege of serving approximately 2.8 military beneficiaries and provide call center, network and medical management support for active duty/active duty families in the South Region and Puerto Rico.

This extensive experience complements our mission to deliver high quality, cost-effective, accessible support for MTFs within all three TRICARE regions.
