Humana Military Healthcare Services
expands
online capabilities
Web site now offers
secure beneficiary transactions
LOUISVILLE, KY — October 3, 2003
— Humana Inc. (NYSE:
HUM) announced today that Humana Military Healthcare Services
(HMHS) has expanded its Web-based technology to offer secure
transactions to beneficiaries residing in Florida, Georgia, South
Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and parts of Louisiana
and Arkansas.
At www.humana-military.com, beneficiaries in
the above regions can check the status of authorizations and
referrals, determine their TRICARE eligibility status, print
TRICARE Prime enrollment verification, request a Prime enrollment
card and monitor the status of claims over a secure
connection. Beneficiaries who are at least 18 years old may
register for access to these new online tools by visiting www.humana-military.com,
choosing "Beneficiary Resources" and "Online Beneficiary
Resources".
“HMHS always has recognized the importance of offering our
beneficiaries online access to TRICARE program information,” said David J. Baker,
HMHS president and CEO. “Our goal is to provide user-friendly Internet access
in a secure setting. In a time of heightened privacy awareness,
security is our top priority.”
“With these new secure services
in place, beneficiaries will have access to their health
care information, as well as their minor children's, when it is
convenient for them,” said Leigh Raque, HMHS marketing director. “We
understand that our beneficiaries are very busy, and
we believe that providing them with 24-hour access to important
information, such as specialist referrals will help them manage their health care needs
more efficiently”
HMHS
began administering the TRICARE program for beneficiaries in the southeastern United
States in July 1996. In June 2001, Humana acquired the
contract to administer the TRICARE program in the Mid-Atlantic
states of North Carolina and southern Virginia
and the Heartland Region states of Kentucky,
Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and West Virgina
from Anthem, Inc. In August 2003, the Department of Defense awarded HMHS
the contract to administer the next generation of the TRICARE
program to approximately 2.76 million beneficiaries in the South region.
Healthcare delivery under the South region contract is scheduled to
begin effective August 2004, subject to the outcome of
appeals of the Department of Defense's decision.
Humana Inc., headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, is one of the
nation’s largest publicly traded health services companies,
with approximately 6.6 million medical members located primarily
in 18 states and Puerto Rico. Humana offers coordinated health insurance
coverage and related services – through traditional and Internet-based
plans – to employer groups, government-sponsored plans and
individuals.
