Humana Military Healthcare Services appoints TRICARE GulfSouth Market Executive Director
Appointee brings more than 30 years of military and health industry experience to post
LOUISVILLE, KY — August 2, 2003
— Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc. (HMHS), the Department of Defense (DoD) TRICARE South Region health services and support contractor, has named Don Lee market executive director in the GulfSouth market office in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In August 2003, HMHS was awarded the DoD contract to administer health services and support to more than 2.7 million eligible TRICARE beneficiaries in the new South region, which encompasses the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
As the GulfSouth market executive director, Lee will oversee operations in 17 TRICARE Service Centers and will manage military treatment facility optimization, provider network development and maintenance and medical management.
“Don has served HMHS at the executive level since 1999,” said Dave Baker, HMHS president and CEO. “His knowledge of both the TRICARE program and the company will benefit him greatly in his new role and be an invaluable asset to HMHS. Having served as a U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corps officer for 30 years, he also is a TRICARE beneficiary himself, which lends him a unique perspective on the program.”
“Our GulfSouth market associates look forward to continuing a great relationship with our government partners as we move forward into the next generation of the TRICARE program,” said Lee. “It is our commitment to make any changes brought about by the transition as invisible as possible to our TRICARE beneficiaries. They deserve the very best service we can provide."
Prior to being appointed to this position, Lee was the executive director of the former TRICARE Region 2, which was incorporated into the new TRICARE North region on July 1, 2004 . Lee began operating in his new capacity on August 1, 2004 , when HMHS transitioned into the TRICARE South region in Alabama , Florida , Georgia , eastern Louisiana , Mississippi , South Carolina and Tennessee .
On November 1, 2004 , HMHS will begin health care delivery in the remaining South region states.
