Humana Military earns Web award for innovative online services

Honor announced at January 2004 TRICARE conference

LOUISVILLE, KY - March 5, 2004- Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS), was honored at the Department of Defense (DoD) TRICARE conference in January with a "2004 Best of TRICARE on the Web" award for innovative online services.

HMHS recently expanded its Wed-based technology to offer beneficiaries, providers and military medical facilities throughout the Heartland, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and GulfSouth TRICARE regions secured log-on transactions. Secure services specifically praised by the DoD include enrollment verification print-out, Prime enrollment card request, quick eligibility check, referral and authorization inquiry and claim status check. Beneficiaries and providers may register for access to these new online tools at www.humana-military.com.

HMHS, a subsidiary of Humana Inc., began administering the TRICARE program on July 1, 1996 and currently serves approximately 2.9 million eligible TRICARE beneficiaries. In August 2003, the Department of Defense awarded HMHS the contract to administer the next generation of the TRICARE program to approximately 2.8 million beneficiaries in the South region. Healthcare delivery under the South region contract is scheduled to begin effective August 2004.
