Louisville, KY – July 13, 2005 – Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced that Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS) was named TRICARE Management Activity’s (TMA) 2005 “Contractor of the Year, Anti-Fraud Performance.” This prestigious award recognizes efforts in detecting and deterring fraud and abuse, as well as HMHS’ outstanding and continued commitment to smoking out fraud in the TRICARE program.
The award was presented to representatives of HMHS’ program integrity department and the senior leadership team, at the TRICARE Management Activity Healthcare Fraud Conference in Dana Point, California in June 2005. HMHS, which has received the award three time, is the only recipient since its inception in 2000.
“We are delighted to be recognized for our continued efforts in protecting and maintaining the integrity of the TRICARE program,” said David J. Baker, HMHS president and CEO. “It is crucial that we ensure the monies the Department of Defense pays for its military health care are spent on providing quality services to our beneficiaries, not on supporting the perpetrators of fraudulent activity.”
“HMHS submitted more than 70 percent of all health care fraud abuse referrals sent to the Department of Defense in 2004,” said Tom Luckett, HMHS Director of Program Integrity. “We have taken a proactive approach in uncovering fraud by utilizing anti-fraud software, networking with other investigative units and law enforcement agencies throughout the county, as well as receiving training on the latest fraud trends from the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association. We are very pleased that our efforts are paying dividends to the military community”.
