Humana Military from the Beginning
Humana Military was founded in 1993 to focus on military health care initiatives.
In 1995, the DoD selected Humana Military as the contractor for TRICARE Region 3 (Southeast) and Region 4 (GulfSouth). In May 2001, it nearly doubled the size of its TRICARE constituency by acquiring Region 2 (Mid-Atlantic) and Region 5 (Heartland). At that point, Humana Military was providing health services to 42 percent of the nation’s TRICARE beneficiaries.
Designated by the DoD as the sole administrator responsible for the Continued Health Care Benefits Program (CHCBP) since 2001, Humana Military offers transitional coverage between the end of military health care services and the beginning of private sector coverage. Humana Military offers CHCBP on a worldwide basis.
In August 2003, the DoD awarded Humana Military the contract to administer the next generation of the TRICARE program for approximately 3 million beneficiaries in the new South Region. In April 2012, Humana Military began implementation of the South Region TRICARE Third Generation (T-3) contract. The TRICARE South Region encompasses Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky (only the Fort Campbell area), Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas (excluding the El Paso area).
From February 2004 through August 2010, the government contracted Humana Military to provide health care services for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico TRICARE Overseas Prime program. This program served active duty service members and their families located in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Humana Military has provided health care services to TRICARE beneficiaries since 1996. Over the years, Humana Military has been honored again and again for performance excellence in a host of different areas, from the quality of health care services delivered to communication with its beneficiaries.
From the beginning, Humana Military has been committed to working collaboratively with our military and civilian partners to develop innovative health care solutions and provide superb customer service to meet beneficiaries’ health care needs. About Humana
