Humana Military Healthcare Services Offers Guidance
to Service Members In Transition and Families

LOUISVILLE, KY — November 16, 2007—Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS) announces the Warrior Navigation & Assistance Program (WNAP), to support active duty, Guard and Reserve service members in transition and their families with information and assistance about the TRICARE program and seamless transition through the military health system.  The new program offers these service members and their families person-to-person guidance and access to a new advocacy unit, specially trained around unique challenges that many service members may face as it relates to access to care or the need for information on all available resources, whether it is the Military Health System, Veterans Affairs or community assets.  It also offers a broad spectrum of clinical programs designed to meet the special needs of soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, coast guard and their families.  Additionally this new specialized unit will oversee education and assistance initiatives for civilian providers caring for service members and their families.

“The military’s operational tempo, including the activation and deployment of Guard and Reserve Forces, creates special challenges for service members in transition and their families,” said Dave Baker, president & CEO of HMHS.  “Our company is here to assist these American heroes – and their families – in obtaining access to high quality healthcare services and ensuring they have actionable information about the full range of their medical benefits as members of the military community.  Creation of this special unit will help us meet their unique needs,” Baker continued.

One attribute of the dedicated unit is a toll-free number for service members in transition and their families.  This telephone number, 1-888-4GO-WNAP, provides direct access to a multi-disciplinary team who will assist service members and/or family members in problem solving and other needed medical or community resources.  There is also a special section on the HMHS Web Site for the Warriors Navigation and Assistance Program.  Service members visiting the web site will find many resources and information.

In addition, the WNAP includes:
  • Enhancements to the HMHS website:
    • Many brochures are available to help service members and families understand their benefit, such as the “Information and Resources for Combat Veterans ” brochure
    • Addition of the Achieve Solutions ® web site, featuring educational resources and tools
    • Expanded outreach to Guard and Reserve, transition coordinators and other military officials to educate beneficiaries on all aspects of the TRICARE program

  • Care Management initiatives, including:
    • Behavioral health support
    • Seamless transition for service members and families ensuring that they are provided with the care they need, when they need it

  • Provider education regarding the unique needs for service members returning home and their families; including resources and tools for providers on our web site
"Our objective was to create an integrated strategy to assist the Nation’s service members and their families,” commented Orie Mullen, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Humana Military Healthcare Services.  “We have made a giant leap forward and look forward to future enhancements,” Mullen concluded.
