LOUISVILLE, KY — September 24, 2008— Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today that Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS), TRICARE's contractor for the South Region, will continue its support and services for TRICARE beneficiaries in Texas and Louisiana who are being affected by the recent Hurricane Ike.
“Once again, our beneficiaries and employees were affected by the recent hurricane, and are continuing in the rebuilding process. We want to assure our beneficiaries of continued access to the healthcare they may require while displaced from their homes,” said David J. Baker, president and CEO of HMHS.
In collaboration with the Department of Defense, HMHS is implementing several policy changes to ensure that beneficiaries affected by Hurricane Ike retain access to their TRICARE benefits during this recovery period.
To assist TRICARE Prime-enrolled beneficiaries affected by Ike enrolled to both Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and civilian Primary Care Managers (PCMs), the Department of Defense and Humana Military are waiving the requirement for referrals to civilian primary and specialty care providers during the period September 13-September 30, 2008 in the Texas counties listed at the end of this news release. In addition, Prime enrolled beneficiaries affected by Tropical Storm Gustav were granted a
waiver of primary and specialty care referrals for August 29-September 12. As a result of additional damage caused by Hurricane Ike, fourteen counties in Louisiana have a waiver extension through September 26. A complete listing of affected counties can also be found on the Humana Military
TRICARE After the Disaster web page. Should local conditions warrant, Humana Military Healthcare Services will make necessary recommendations on any extensions for the current waivers.
All TRICARE beneficiaries should continue to use HMHS’ website
Disaster Preparedness page for updates. The HMHS Customer Service line at 1-800-444-5445 is available for questions or to locate a TRICARE Service Center closest to their current physical location. For pharmacy questions, military beneficiaries should contact the TRICARE pharmacy contractor, Express Scripts Inc. at 1-866-363-8779.
